Failed to upgrade to Windows 11 22H2

September 23, 2022 –
According to unconfirmed reports, the installation on Windows 11 22H2 fails for some users with the error code 0x800f0806. However, the problem can be avoided with a workaround.

These days Microsoft has released the second feature update for Windows 11 with the identifier 22H2 (“Swiss IT Magazine” reported). As various user feedback suggests, the upgrade process does not run smoothly everywhere, as “Neowin” reports. There are various reports of failed upgrades that result in the error code “0x800f0806”. The misbehavior should only appear with in-place upgrades, where the update is initialized via the Windows update settings.

Apparently there is a workaround: According to a Reddit user, Windows 11 22H2 can still be installed if in-place upgrades fail if instead the update is downloaded from Microsoft’s Update Catalog in advance and then installed manually. Another user reports that the installation via the Windows 11 Installation Assistant should also go smoothly.

There is currently no official confirmation of the upgrade problems from Microsoft. (rd)
